From the Sharingan to the Rinnegan, there have been a slate of different dojutsu that have graced the world of Naruto, but none of them are as special as the Jougan. This is a dojutsu that was introduced in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations as one of the most broken eye abilities that one can get. The protagonist of the series Boruto, is the only person confirmed to use this dojutsu. Him and a very special figure that will change everything if introduced to the story. But why is the Jougan so powerful? Does it have more power than the Rinnesharingan, or the Tenseigan that was introduced in the Last movie? This are the questions that I am here to answer, but first we need a little backstory to how this eye was conceived.
Both Boruto and Himawari are some very special case children in the world of Naruto. Naruto at the end of his series was the most powerful person on the planet, and Hinata is clearly not a slouch in the power department. This clearly contributed in how their children, gained extremely rare abilities. Himawari gained a special pair of Byakugans which she can shut off at will, on top of gaining a massive chakra pool. Boruto on the other hand awakened the Jougan, a per curious eye that looks similar to the Byakugan, but don’t judge a book by it’s cover. This eye is crazy powerful, and the this is we still don’t know its full capabilities.
The Jougan has a variety of abilities, some of which most characters already have. This are the abilities that a holder of the Jougan possesses:
- It can see Chakra like the Byakugan.
- It can track and predict movement like the Sharingan.
- It can See through dimensions like the Rinnegan.
- It can peer through people’s inner world, as seen with Momoshiki.
- It can open space time portals and track a path through dimensions as seen in the Nue Arc.
These are the confirmed abilities that the Jougan possesses and they are absolutely crazy. We also had the monumental panel of an Otsutsuki God surrounded by Jougans, further showing that this dojutsu is special. Momoshiki stated that Boruto has strongly inherited Otsutsuki genes, which led to him gaining this dojutsu. This may be because both Naruto and Hinata possess Sage of Six paths chakra from both Hagoromo and Hamura Otsutsuki respectively. This and the fact that Naruto’s chakra was greatly altered by Kurama, Boruto gaining a god Eye from the mixture of genes is highly plausible.
As the time skip has already started via Two Blue Vortex, we will see more of what this eye can do. Boruto did train using a cheat code through Kashin Koji, so maybe he did get some tips on how his future self uses the Jougan. We know he will master it as seen in ep 1 of Boruto, and since he is now 100% Otsutsuki, his powers may as well reach godly hood. For now, the Jougan is on a race to become the weapon that will help Boruto regain his life back, and save the planet from the plague strangling it.
