‘Why can’t I follow the animation’, is a problem that most anime fans go through on their career to pursue this genre. Shonen Anime always has that moment when the animation kicks up and goes through the roof. It may be a new transformation being shown, or a power up, heck sometimes it’s just the character screaming as they charge at an opponent. We have all experienced this rush of adrenaline at least once. But sometimes, the hype is there, the scenes have placed this one moment to be the greatest in an episode, then you don’t know what happened after finishing it. You literally can’t remember or fathom what happened in that specific portion of the episode. And Solo Leveling fans you are no exception.

Solo Leveling is a highly acclaimed Dungeon Manhwa that got an anime adaptation from the studio, A-1 Pictures. This was a dub for the Manhwa community, since Japan has had a not so good track record, with Manhwa Adaptations. From Tower of God Season 2, to the God of High School, we have suffered enough. But having a good adaptation does not mean that everything is smooth sailing. From not following the Manhwa exactly, to differences in scenes when translated to an anime format, the Solo Leveling anime has had its share of problems. But Season 2 of the anime has had a recurring problem that even personally affected me.

Every major fight that we have gotten in the anime in the latest season, has been well animated, dare to say godly, but seriously, what is happening. Who is doing what, what is the opponent doing on this instant. If one doesn’t pause or slow down the playback you won’t see what is happening. Following the fights is a serious dilemma. On one side the fight is hype and well animated, but on the other you can’t follow the movements of the characters, and I think that is a valid criticism of the anime. During the Baran fight, it was hard to know what Jinwoo was doing against the Demon King. All you see and hear are flashes of light, screaming, swords clashing and an ending that was Hella convenient.

This may fell like a rant, but it’s frustrating to watch these episodes, and come out knowing nothing. We anime fans like to analyze fights, it helps in debates when you can point what your character’s move set looks like. That may look like nitpicking, but great animation doesn’t usually equal a good experience. One Piece fans remember the start of Gear 5 Luffy vs Kaido, it was not that great. In that fight, it was hard to follow Luffy’s movements despite the good animation. All we hope for is that Beru Vs Jinwoo will be more fluidly animated, so as to make the fans appreciate the anime more. Or we can always read the Manhwa, the experience may be different but at least the Aura Points are higher.
