‘Why Are They Using Guns?’ The Omniscient Reader Live Action Movie Might Just Break The Fandom

It was announced in summer of 2024 that Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint was going to get alive action movie adaptation. This was a shock since just a few months before, the Anime adaptation of the Webtoon was also announced. The fandom was not asking for a live action movie, and the track record of that was not helping. There are very few Live Action movies and shows that are actually good but 90% of it is just garbage. The title of this film was announced to be ‘ The Prophet‘ and since a trailer was not released, fans had little hope that it may fall into the 10% of good live action shows….that was until the official trailer came out.
A trailer was dropped on YouTube in early 2025, and this damaged everything. Everything came crumbling down as the fans of Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint, saw their beloved show get axed by liberties taken by the producers of the show. From Joonghuk using a gun to Jihye, a teenager pulling up with a sniper rifle, the adaptation was anything but faithful to the source material. It’s known that when translating media from one form to another, somethings can get lost and changed to fit the format that they are trying to achieve with it. But sometimes changing a show to the point it’s unrecognizable, destroys what the fundamentals of the original story was about….and that’s the thing, Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint is a story about Stories within it, it’s the whole premise of the show. Why destroy this fundamental to achieve a story that does not shine through what Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint is about.
Guns are not a stranger to Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint, but they’re barely there. From memory alone I think the one who uses anything close to a rifle is Pildu Gong and that’s stretching it. What makes Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint different from most shows is how it portrays conflict. Most of the time when the characters are fighting, it’s more of Ideals clashing than physical prowess. This is why Kim Dokja is a very good protagonist since he shows this part very well. From him sacrificing himself countless times, to making sure Joonghyuk doesn’t regress and destroy the timeline, his clashing with his adversaries constantly shows what heart he has. As the sole reader who finished ‘Three Ways To Survive The Apocalypse‘ Dokja’s Love for the story has transcended what it means to love a piece of fiction.
Most of the Characters in Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint use bladed weapons. From Swords, Daggers to Spears and Sickles, bladed weapons are a staple in the show. Imagine waking up one morning to find out that Solo Leveling is getting a live action, only to find out Sung Jinwoo is running around with two Uzis and an Ak 47 rifle in a trailer….that is how Omniscient Reader fans feel right now.
Will the Live Action adaptation be bad? The answer cannot be said right now but what we know is that, Joonghyuk is using a pistol. That says everything about the movie, it’s already a disaster. We still don’t even know if the Dokkaebi will be featured in the movie, and how the Star Stream System will be implemented in the movie. How will the constellations behave as they see their Incarnations run around ridding opponents with bullets? This may be a fascinating thing to look out for as the movie comes out. Fans still have a chance with the Anime but when in doubt, the Original Light Novel and Webtoon Adaptation are out there….just read and you will be fine.
