Ever since the Super Saiyan Blue transformation was created, fans have been misinformed as to what it actually is. From people thinking its just Super Saiyan with blue hair, to just chocking it up to another transformation after the God one, many people don’t understand the fundamentals of this transformation. Why is this and how can this be corrected. This article will go in depth to analyze and tackle what exactly the transformation is and does, in the Dragon Ball Franchise.

First we need to understand how the form came into being and how it affected Goku and Vegeta’s power going forward. The Super Saiyan Blue transformation debuted in the Resurrection F arc of the Dragon Ball Super Manga. This was right after Frieza, who had been training for four months after resurrection, came to destroy Earth and its inhabitants. At this time Goku and Vegeta were undergoing special training on Beerus’s world in order for them to get stronger. Both of them at this time had unlocked their God Ki which is fundamental to awakening SSJB. But why is it essential? Why is God Ki needed to achieve SSJB. This is where people misjudge and get confused on how SSJB is connected to SSJG.

When a Saiyan unlocks their God Ki they transform into a Super Saiyan God, a completely new being from the previous one. This is shown with the physical change that occurs when one undergoes the transformation. You need to understand that there are two types of Ki in Dragon Ball, Mortal Ki and God Ki. As the names suggest Mortal Ki is energy used by mortals while God Ki is used by Gods albeit there is an exception. Some mortals through training or special circumstances can awaken this God Ki effectively increasing their power exponentially. The difference between the two is that Mortals can’t sense God Ki as it is very different from the ones they use. This will come in handy later on in the article.

After unlocking this Ki through a ritual, Goku was able to become a God, both physically and Spiritually. At that point Goku was no longer a mortal, his very being had been changed which gave birth to the next transformation which was SSJB. In the anime Goku perfectly explains to Frieza what this transformation is. He says that he had achieved a God form before and was able to add Super Saiyan to it, effectively being Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan, not Super Saiyan God: Super Saiyan. This two terms are totally different. Super Saiyan God: Super Saiyan is what most people believe to be SSJB which is wrong. If you follow the term it means that SSJB, is just SSJG with SSJ stacked on to of it which is not the case. Goku explained it well but people didn’t get what he was saying. Super Saiyan Blue is what happens when a Super Saiyan God goes Super Saiyan. As stated before Mortals and Gods are fundamentally different meaning that both Goku and Vegeta have two base forms, that is: Mortal Base Form and God Base Form. This means SSJG is just the Base of the God transformations, meaning it too can transform giving birth to SSJB.

That distinction was primarily confirmed by Krillin when he first saw SSJB. He lamented that he couldn’t sense Goku or Vegeta’s Ki when they transformed meaning they were using God Ki. If SSJB was just SSJG with SSJ stacked on top, Krillin would have been able to sense their Ki since Mortal Ki is mixed with it. Fans need to understand the difference between the two to effectively know what SSJB is about. I wish this helped you in any way and keep a look out for other articles, explaining mis-informed anime transformations in the Web.
