Oda has been teasing us lately with what the endgame might look like, with the reveal of powers never seen before in the scope that we call ONE PIECE. From Joyboy’s Haki seemingly being a stronger version of conqueror’s and the reveal that Bonney’s devil fruit wasn’t what we thought it was, Egghead has been an arc like o other. But all those reveals fall in comparison to what we found out about the power that the world government has on its sleeve. The reveal that the Elder Planets we all essentially immortal, and that all their power comes from Imu, was a shock not to say unexpected.
At first thought to be devil fruit users, potentially mythical zoans, was just retconned in the previous chapter. This is not a devil fruit or a different kind of Haki, but a completely new power that Oda is introducing that will set Imu as the greatest wall that the straw hats will have to climb for them to claim the one piece. From the Magic Circles that the Elders used to summon themselves to egghead, to having potentially the most broken of devil fruit esc abilities, to actual immortality, gives me the doubt that this is a devil fruit at work.
We know that Imu is an entity that has been alive since the void century, and if the ancient kingdom was way advanced than what we see in egghead( according to Vegapunk), I cant put it past them to have found the secret to immortality. If its not technology and is perhaps just a devil fruit, then, i would be the most powerful or even the Precursor of all the devil fruits that exist as we know it. Maybe it dates back to NIKA, who we know is completely different from Joyboy, since it was confirmed that he was just another Luffy who was just using Nika’s power via the Hito Hito no mi. We literally see Imu take back his power as if he is the actual devil nullifying his contract. The void century a we know it was technologically advanced, and we know the one piece history goes way past the void so it would be plausible that this is an ancient power.
But what if this power is actually Magic. We are going to Elbalf next, an Island greatly inspired by Norse mythology, the Thor’s, Loki and Odin’s sound pretty magical to me. If Oda introduces another power system in Elbalf I would greatly welcome it since it would explain a lot of things that happened in Egghead as well as introducing a different take in power in One piece. Maybe actual Gods and Devils do exist in One Piece.
