With over 190 episodes on Webtoon, Hero Killer has solidified itself as one of the best stories out there. This webtoon brings a breath of fresh air as we are not following the hero of the story but rather, a villain. As the title suggests, this is not a self righteous story for the main character does exactly what the title implies, she kills heroes. A villain for a main character is just what most people want in this oversaturated society of heroes.
The story follows Ihwa, a normal citizen of this world who was thrust into its darkness after finding her sister murdered in her house. This prompts Ihwa to take action against society for her sister was not killed by a villain, but by a hero. The world of Hero Killer has been ravished with wars between parties that ally themselves as Heroes, or Villains. But the truth is not that simple as the line has become more grey after years of this happening. Heroes have used their status to do evil deeds at the expense of the society that see them as their saviors. But this is not right.
Having experienced this side of society, Ihwa vows to kill anyone who gets in her way as she seeks revenge for her sister. Needless to say that the bulk of Ihwas’s enemies are heroes. Her sister was involved with them and knowing this, Ihwa goes on a warpath to find who was responsible for her death. In her journey Ihwa confronts the world head on seeing just how its not black and white. From the perspective of a Villain, Hero, and even an Anti-Hero at times, Ihwa shows just how messed up the society is in hero killer…..but don’t forget, Ihwa is a villain and she stays throughout to that front.
From villain groups, to Hero Clans, Hero Killer has it all. The Gift power system is perfect and how the hierarchy is situated throughout the story makes it an enjoyable read. You won’t get bored as the story follows a lot of formulas that don’t stay in the norm of the super hero genre.
