It was just announced that the One Piece anime will be going on hiatus until April of 2025. From the official Toei Animation X( twitter) account, it was just revealed that the last episode of the Egghead Island arc, ep 1122, will be the last to be aired in 2024. The arc will continue in spring of 2025. This breaking news will redefine One Piece and how animation is key to the success of an anime, more so in this day and age.
I is pretty well known how before Wano, One piece didn’t have that much to say for itself regarding the quality of animation. On top of that the pacing was horrendous thereby destroying key moments that we build will hype in the manga to fall flat. This was due to the anime being very close to the manga, forcing Toei Animation to slow down the pace as to not catch up to the manga. In this age of new anime fans, this blocks many potential one piece enthusiasts from starting the anime. Who in their right mind will watch over a thousand episodes.
This development will help correct the pacing issues and constant quality animation as we have been seeing from the Wano and Egghead arcs. The anime will technically continue airing as it has been announced that the ONE PIECE LOG: FISH-MAN ISLAND SAGA, re-edited version of the arc will be on. This is an abridged version of the previous animated arc with enhanced visuals and Wano filters being added to the art style. The animation has been updated and some key scenes have been re-animated to match the Wano art style so new fans who haven’t reached the time-skip yet are in for a treat.
This is the best news to come out from Toei Animation as competition is high in the anime community. With series like Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen upping what it means for a show to look and be good, One Piece needs to catch up and be in the road of who will be the next generational anime. One piece has had its moment is Wano and Egghead but that is not across the board. The key moments or episodes where important plotlines happen is where the good is concentrated, the other parts are not necessarily bad, they just don’t live up to the art and animation that is being conveyed. This is a good opportunity for One Piece to be in conversations of the best anime with constant good animation. If this goes well, One Piece will come back with a bang and sweep the whole internet under its rug, look out for that..
